Question chests and collectors

Is there any reason to buy keys for the occasional chest in the wilderness? The keys cost more than the item you get.

Do collectors ever have something better than what you've come across?

Chests generally don't return a profit. The low level ones (where the keys cost less than 600g) are basically guaranteed to not pay themselves off. However, they can be worthwhile. Your Treasure Hunter title increases if you use a 600g+ key (or lockpick), you might get a rare/gold item (identifying them increases your Wisdom title and selling them unidentified will return a profit), and either your Lucky or Unlucky title will increase depending on whether your lockpick breaks or not.

Regarding collectors; they are worthwhile. You can get armor that's essentially free and it's a good source of hero equipment. It's often easier to just buy green/unique items, but that might cost money you don't have to spare. Note that max AL armor that comes from crafters cannot hold a insignia or rune.

Some exceptions apply...but in general yeah he's right...

However, the area your at (which I believe to be the asuran areas in Eotn) aren't one of the exceptions...

Everything except this was right imo, but For low lvl ones, 300-450g chests pay themself pack easyly, they can give golds, if u run in normal mode with lockpicks, got max treasure and nice luck, so u got nice retain rate, u might open 20 with one lockpick, and usually are, u make profit

At your stage in the game, don't bother with chests. Just merch any keys that drop for the gold. Even chests in EotN won't be of great benefit to you. The chance of getting something worth the key is very small and it is way too soon in the game to be concerned with a Treasure Hunter title.

Collector's are dependent upon what you need. If your sojourn in EoTn gave you max armor and weapons, then you will not need most of what the collectors prior to Southern Shiverpeaks area can offer. But keep collectors in mind for your hero weapons as you obtain more heroes or you need more specialized weapons.

And for the opposing view......

No, chests don't "pay off" every time you use them, but if you regularly open chests, you will occasionally get something useful - a weapon, mod, rune, item - that you can either use yourself or sell. This is not as profitable now, as it once was, of course, because the game is old and most people have all the stuff they want. But, even if it's not profitable, it's fun - fun used to be part of the game once, too.

There are very few collector items that are worth bothering with. If you actually take the time to collect the items needed, you could have spent less time simply playing and gathering enough gold to buy the equivalent piece from a crafter or other player. Half the time, a better item drops before you can collect enough things. (That's been one of my "pet peeves" about GW - I would have liked it if the collectors were worth the trouble.)
